News surfaced last week that Eddie Bauer offers a military discount of 15%. We called and confirmed, and it’s true! Let’s pause for a minute and say “Wooohooo, thanks Eddie Bauer!” But then, I have to stop and wonder, why don’t they market their discount widely? Why wouldn’t they be shouting it from the rooftops? Or at least including it in customer emails and posting it on the front page of their website?
Well, it’s kinda hard. To offer a military discount means you have to answer the question “How do we make sure that only military personnel get the discount?” The technology exists to verify easily and instantly if someone is part of the military, but it’s a fairly new technology and most companies don’t have it.
Eddie Bauer doesn’t have the technology, so they are walking that fine line between wanting all military peeps to know that they offer a 15% discount, but they don’t really want anyone else to know, ya know?
Here’s the low-down from the mouth of an official customer service representative from Eddie Bauer:
15% military discount is available in stores and when you call in an order. It is NOT available on their website due to that whole verification thing. It seems to be open to any level of military personnel—active, retired, or veteran.
Please support Eddie Bauer as they are supporting the troops—wooohooo!
